Organic Hair Colour Inspired by Maye Musk

Our most recent photo shoot was one of the best yet! Using our organic hair colour, we featured eight mature ladies who shared with us their outgoing nature and eccentric approach to life. We aimed to celebrate their age by embracing the grey hair and smile lines as achievements of a life well lived. See for yourself the fantastic images obtained as these women dressed up and shared with us their gregarious attitudes towards life.

Our Maye Musk Inspired Shoot

All too often mainstream media creates a definition of beauty that is synonymous with young. We are looking to embrace a wide definition of beauty in all its forms, especially those that feature mature women – with silver hair and wrinkles achieved during a lifetime of experiences. Recently, Covergirl made the exciting announcement Maye Musk has been named as their newest brand ambassador. At age 69, she is an influential celebrity, with master’s degrees in both dietetics and nutritional science, and over five decades experience in modelling. She is a role model who is setting the stage for mature women to continue to occupy spaces as beauty icons. Other women we admire include Iris Apfel, now 96 years old and a continuing fashion icon, as well as Diane Keaton, a well-known actress with an enviable natural style.

Our mature models drew inspiration from these iconic women and really brought it forward in front of the camera. These women are not hiding in large clothes that obscure their figures, but rather are continuing to put their playful fun loving attitudes at the front, embracing the wrinkles and making their grey hair a highlight of the image.

Organic Hair Colour for Mature Women

The women in this shoot all had haircuts here at Chilli Couture. Ranging in colours from blondes to silvers to auburns, all these women enjoyed the natural hair colour obtained with the premium products we are proud to use. The natural texture of their hair was taken into consideration by our stylists, helping to find and tailor a bespoke look that not only suits their hair but highlights their attitude and personality as well. The colouring agents used by Chilli Couture are of the highest quality. This is how we are able to achieve natural looking colour which retains that healthy shine. Sparkling whites, shimmering silvers and glistening charcoals are increasingly popular versions of hair colours that are traditionally associated with aging. This fashionable trend continues to glorify the changes that come with age, placing on a pedestal smile lines, crow’s feet, and grey hair – all signs of a life well lived.

Chilli Couture Style

This is easily one of the most energising photo shoots we have undertaken at Chilli Couture. The passion for life these women show in the images is inspirational. They are taking ownership of their age and flaunting it with gorgeous hairstyles and edgy outfits. This is a trend we have seen only rise in popularity during this past year, with no signs of stopping. Be sure to contact Chilli Couture today and let us help you take your style to the next level.

What’s the big deal about Colour Correction???

Colour Correction FAQs

There has been a huge amount of colour correcting services and big colour changes walking through our door for the last 6 months.

Understandably, many people don’t realise the amount of work, time and cost involved in this.
Here are some key points that we’d like to share
with you if you are looking at doing a
big colour change or wanting to fix a bad colour job…

The very first thing that we ask is for you to come in for a
complimentary consultation. This can take 15-20 minutes
and may even involve us taking a small sample of your hair to colour test.
Be prepared for a long appointment or multiple appointments before you get the desired result.

Going Lighter:

  • generally, with long hair there are multiple layers of colour built up over each other, these all need to be removed and unfortunately as your hair is longer it is older and more fragile, but this is generally the hair that is the most fragile.
  • Box dye and henna is the hardest to remove
  • If you were once blonde under all that dark colour then you will still be blonde, and therefore your hair is more fragile.
  • Red colours will never be removed in one session, nor will black colours.
  • Different colour applications will need different dye removers e.g. direct dues need a different colour remover than a developed colour molecule.
  • You will need to remove the dye off the hair as much as possible before you even start to lighten the hair with lightener.
  • Always, always use a bond reconstructor in your lightener!
  • Always have colour correction done at a professional salon!
  • Never colour your hair at home!
  • Your hair will need treatments and the correct colour shampoo and conditioners to maintain your colour.
  • It will be expensive.

      Going Darker:

  • The porosity of the hair will affect the colour durability
  • You need to replace the natural underlying pigments that have been removed prior to adding your base tone or the colour will wash out immediately and/or not be the right tone.
  • It will take multiple applications to get colour to staining the hair shaft,
  • Colour correction works inside and on the external cuticle simultaneously.
  • Always have colour correction done at a professional salon!
  • Never colour your hair at home!
  • Your hair will need treatments and the correct colour shampoo and conditioners to maintain your colour.

Meet Stacey!

IMG_3720

Our New(ish) Hair Stylist & Salon Assistant

I’m sure many of you would know or at least recognise Stacey by now. She has been with us as our Salon Assistant for the past 7 months and we don’t know how we would cope without her!
From her amazing client head & shoulder massages
to her Stacey Special “mint hot chocolate” ahhhh-mazing!!!
Stacey’s biggest loves are hair and food (who can’t relate to that!?) She is also a passionate vegan whose knowledge on vegan cooking is super helpful….I ask at least one food/cooking related question a week. She is NEVER allowed to leave!

Here’s 5 minutes with Stacey….

How come you like food so much?

I grew up in a home with parents who seemed like magicians in the kitchen – my mother, in particular,  could make the most delicious meals out of the simplest ingredients. I love the chemistry and process of combining flavours and textures. I especially love the way food brings people together. It’s deeply social, intimate and important to me.

If you had to eat only one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Nachos!

Ok, enough about food. Onto hair. As long as we’ve known you, from being a Chilli client to now our Salon Assistant, you’ve always rocked a funky hairstyle. Why?

Your hair is your crown. It’s the only thing you wear when you’re naked (that, and tattoos….) and it’s a statement on who you want to be seen as. I love the way changing your hair changes your look completely. As my identity grew, so did my hairstyle, and not always consciously.

Besides humming & singing along to the tunes in the salon, what is your other favourite thing to do here?

Well, you know I love to mop…..really I do! (Donna here…yes she actually does!)
But I love doing toners, watching the hair change before my eyes is incredible. And of course, I love educating about shampooing and the difference good quality products make.

Last but not least…Why do you love your Chilli family so much? 😉
I love working with people that genuinely put their clients first, that are passionate and professional and also stay true to themselves.

Happy 6th Birthday to Us!!

The Chilli Team

Happy 6th Birthday to Us!
We celebrated our 6th birthday in June but held an intimate party for close friends and family in July.
The weather was wild but that didn’t stop us or our hardcore fans from having a great night.
We glammed up and had beautiful models to showcase the latest hairstyles and hair colours and wearing stunning gowns from Zhivago was the icing on our birthday cake!
A massive thanks to DY.o Events aka Duo for their gorgeous salon make over, flower wall and turning Chilli Couture into a winter wonderland. You girls are superstars! If you are ever in need of a design team for an event, we can highly recommend these two ladies.
Make up was done by the beautiful Jessie Appleyard Artistry-this gal knows her stuff! Her sweet nature and bubbly personality just warms all our hearts!
Delicious vegan food supplied by Roark & Co was washed down with bubbles and more yummy beverages. And we were lucky enough to be

nibbling on the remainders the next day! We all know that food is the way to a hairdressers heart!
Roark & Co have the most relaxed boho cafe located on Blinco Street in Fremantle, if you are down that way, be sure to check it out.

I can promise you won’t be disappointed!

Our star photographer for the night was Tasha Faye. A massive thank you to her for taking beautiful shots of everyone on the night.

So again, a huge thanks to everyone who was involved and those that shared this wonderful fun celebration with us.
